English Morphology : Type of Morphemes


1.    Bound Morphemes – The morpheme that must be attached to the word
- Derivational Morphemes : Morphemes that if tied / attached to another morpheme it will make a new morpheme / word or to form a word with a different grammar from the previous word.
- Inflectional Morphemes :  Morphemes that have grammatical meaning or functional in the sentence.

2.    Free Morphemes – Morpheme that can stand alone as words.
- Lexical Morphemes : Morpheme that can stand alone and it will convey the content of the message we convey.
- Functional Morphemes : Morpheme that can stand alone but not clear what content will be conyed.

3.    Affixes – Morpheme that comes at the beginning or the ending of a base morpheme.
- Prefixes : An affix that comes before a base morphemes.
- Suffixes : An affix that comes after a base morphemes.
